| Improving one's digital photography skills begins with learning the basics |
Photographers of all ages and every level of expertise will agree that the digital camera has more than revolutionized the field of photography. No longer do we need to take a shot and hope for the best outcome, only to be grossly disappointed when the film is developed a week later. If the photo is a disaster, the moment is gone and so is your confidence. For a student or novice photographer, results are the inspiration to keep shooting. For the professional photographer, a failed shot is more than deflating to the ego; it is time, money and repeat business at stake.
Don't be misled in believing that a digital camera will resolve the need for developing basic camera skills. While a professional grade camera will increase the quality potential, in the hands of an untrained photographer it is worth nothing more than a point-and-shoot disposable. Digital photography is more user friendly for previewing and setting up the shot, but can be totally relentless if your exposure settings are slightly less than perfect.
The quality of your camera is a prime consideration as you develop your skills, but your initial investment should be determined by your dedication to learn the art of photography. If your interests are limited to holiday snapshots, you will attain your goal very quickly with auto programmed camera systems. However, if you are pursuing a more advanced level of expertise or want the total control of your images through manual power settings, you must be willing to invest both quality and time.
This book is written for beginners and for those who have some basic knowledge about digital photography. It explains simply how to use a digital camera. After reading and developing the skills outlined in this book, you will have the tools to develop into intermediate level photography. I hope that each of you will create outstanding images that capture joyous memories. |
